The Flag Day Run 2011

Machine-translated from Faroese and not yet reviewed. Read the original.

Once again this year, Bragdið is organising a race on Flag Day. The start is at 16:00 sharp by Gamla Apotek, right after the pleasant Flag Day celebration on Vaglið in Tórshavn.

The race is for children and adults. Please note that everyone is welcome: fast and not so fast, young and old. Adults run about 7 km and children run about 1.8 km.

The categories are as follows:

  • Girls born 1998-2004
  • Boys born 1998-2004
  • Women open category – 1997
  • Men open category – 1997
  • Veteran women born 1956-1965
  • Veteran men born 1956-1965
  • Super-veteran women born -1955
  • Super-veteran men born -1955

As well as being a race for individuals, the Flag Day Run is also a competition between companies, institutions and others, known as the company race. In this competition, companies can enter teams of 3-5 adult participants, which then compete against each other. Several teams may take part from each company. Men and women must take part in separate teams. Only the three best times in each team count in the competition.

After crossing the finish line, all participants receive fruit and something to drink. These are sponsored by P/F Poul Michelsen, MBM and Føroya Bjór respectively.

The winning teams and individuals receive trophies to keep. In addition, medals will be awarded to nos. 1, 2 and 3. The main sponsors of the Flag Day Run are BankNordik and Trygd.

The race follows the same route as last year. It runs down past Café Natúr and the Smyril Line roundabout to the campsite at Yviri við Strond, where runners turn back towards town. In town, runners turn again at the car park at Bursatangi, the “røntgan”, and run the same way out to the campsite, where they turn for the last time and run back into town and up to the finish by Gamla Apotek.

Registration is here on the site under “registration”. The deadline for registration is Maundy Thursday evening, 21 April.

The entry fee is DKK 60 for adults and DKK 30 for children.

Bib numbers must be collected at the ÍSF building on Saturday 23 April between 14:00 and 16:00.

Companies and institutions can enter one or more teams in the competition. The easiest way to do this is to email Niels Jákup at nielsj@elektron.fo or Fríðrik at superdekk@superdekk.fo. We will then send you a form to fill in and return to us.

It is important that the team name is given when registering, e.g. “Company-1”, “Company-2”, etc.

IT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE TO REGISTER ON THE DAY JUST BEFORE THE RACE!!
