Just as we in the Faroe Islands have our TF Winter Series, the Danes also have their own winter series. Round 2 of the Danish winter series takes place on Saturday in Roskilde, and from a Faroese point of view it will be a very interesting race. Taking part are none other than our best female runners, Valborg Heinesen and Bjørk Herup Olsen. Saturday’s race format is a little different from what we usually see, and has not yet been tried in the Faroese Winter Series. The race is an 18 x 1 km and is run in teams of three athletes, each of whom runs 1 km 6 times. And what makes it especially exciting is that Valborg and Bjørk, together with the talented Dagmar Fæster Olsen, are representing Sparta 1.
The fighter Bjørk, here in a cross-country race in the USA, is hopefully on her way back towards her former strength.
We know that Valborg is in good form, and should currently be counted among at least the top 10 distance runners in Denmark. Bjørk is recovering from a long-standing foot injury. We will find out on Saturday what she is capable of at the moment, but there is little doubt that her form is heading in the right direction, since she is representing the 1st team of Denmark’s strongest club, Sparta. And Dagmar Fæster Olsen is a very fast runner who has made her name particularly over 800 metres, but who can also run longer distances.
After 12th place at the Nordic Cross-Country Championships last weekend, Valborg is ready for another round of the Danish winter series
So it will be exciting to follow this select team, which will no doubt be competing for the top places. FÍF wishes you the best of luck!
