Pushed themselves like never before

Last weekend the middle- and long-distance runners in the talent group gathered for a training camp in Klaksvík. The Scout huts were the base for a long weekend with four training sessions. As soon as the bus arrived in Klaksvík, everyone had to get a move on and hurry down to the Badminton Hall, where the first session began at 17:00. This was an hour of circuit training together with Treysti. It has now almost become a tradition for the talent group to do circuit training with Treysti on a Friday in March.

It has also become a tradition for the talent group to take part in the annual TF Run in Klaksvík. This is otherwise a small race, mostly intended for local runners. This year there were about 50 participants, and naturally the runners from the talent group were very prominent in the older age groups. The results from the race, which took place on Saturday morning, can be seen here: http://www.treysti.fo/news-tf+renningin+2014+gott+vedur+og+godar+tidir.htm

To get a bit more out of the morning session, they ran some extra before and after the race. There was another session in the afternoon. It began with a run out to Oyrar, with the emphasis on running technique. We then went to the pitch, where we worked a little on coordination and finally did relay intervals on the pitch. The last session was on Sunday morning. Once again we were on the football pitch at Við Djúpumýrar, where we ran 250 m intervals.

Bad weather doesn’t stop good form

The effort at every session was truly incredible. It is clear that, even though the weather has been rough this year, the young athletes are in very good shape. And the attitude is also absolutely top-notch. Since only middle- and long-distance runners were at the training camp, we had also invited those who are close to joining the talent group and who have also trained a lot this winter. This worked out extremely well, and the guests also did exceptionally well. It was great to see that they could run together in smaller groups where there was very little difference in level. It was especially good to see the 14–16-year-old boys. Jákup, Gunnar, Niklas, Steintór and Rúni were very strong, and also evenly matched, and gave each other good training. The same can be said of the youngest girls, Oddvør, Maria, Elin Kristina, Elisabet and Rutt. Little girls with steely determination battling together in rain and wind. Fantastic! Einar, Teitur and Steingrímur were close together throughout all the sessions, and the same was true of the Bragdið friends Katarina, Karin and Sára. Rúni and Regin did sprint training on their own, and Rebekka and Marnar are also something of a class of their own! Gutti and Hallur had every reason to be pleased!

In total there were 22 of us at the training camp. We are now working on organising the next camp, where the throwers, sprinters and jumpers will also take part.
