Results from TF VK-8, the Spring Race and the Faroese 10 km Championships

Machine-translated from Faroese and not yet reviewed. Read the original.

Here are the results from the 8th and final round of the TF Winter Series, which also served as the Faroese Championships over the 10 km distance. The races were held as part of the annual Spring Race (Várkappingin), which Roysnið organises in Runavík. We are hardly wrong to say that this was the best weather we have had in any round this winter.

And the sunshine that yr.no had promised us did turn up as well. Some runners also responded especially well to this extra and rather unfamiliar dose of vitamin D sent down from the sky. One of them was our best runner, Marnar Djurhuus, who has lately been in the form of his life. Today he took another big step forward when his time of 32:18 not only set a course record but was also the fastest 10 km time any Faroese runner has ever run in the Faroe Islands. At the 5 km mark the stopwatch showed 15:53! With this fine result Marnar is now third on the Faroese all-time list, behind Marni Joensen (30:58) and Guttorm Sørensen (31:28). But there is plenty more to come from the young lad from Morskranes, who must have been a whole kilometre ahead of the next runner across the line, Sam Vang. Sam was around half a minute ahead of Eirik Hansen in third place.

Marnar Djurhuus showed no mercy today. He tore apart all the opposition and his own best time.

The women’s Faroese champion was, not entirely unexpectedly, Rebekka Fuglø. She also won clearly, even though she got a stomach ache during the race. Her aim was to run under 40 minutes for the first time, and she would surely have managed it had it not been for that damned stitch. She was just 13 seconds short of her target. Nor did today’s runner-up, Rigmor N. Arge, run to her best. Her legs simply didn’t feel like running today, but they still carried her safely to the silver medal. Tórvør Ø. Vang also took a safe bronze medal.

Rebekka Fuglø, Faroese champion for women and for junior women

Another really remarkable and fine result today came in the girls’ 5 km. Just 11-year-old Maria Biskopstø ran and won in 19:38. Running under 20 minutes for 5 km is a dream goal for many, and an excellent result too. Maria’s excellent result should take nothing away from the result of Oddvør Josephsen in second place, who also ran superbly with 20:26. The third girl across the line was Elin Kristina Ryan. All three run for Treysti.

Maria Biskopstø crosses the line. Look at the clock!!!

Gunnar Sivertsen has won all six of the races he has run this winter. He too produced an outstanding result, with 18:10 for the 5 kilometres. Rúni Skarðhamar, who is fairly new to running, also managed to run under 19 minutes and finished second. Steintór Egholm was third.

Gunnar Sivertsen in front and Rúni Skarðhamar next. Both under 19 minutes for 5 km!

Ann Thomsen, Faroese champion in the women’s veterans. Astrid Joensen was 2nd but didn’t make it into the photo, though Anna Maria Seloy did, even though she ran an extra lap today. She has improved a great deal this winter and finished third.

Henry Olsen made a strong comeback after time out injured. He became Faroese champion in the veterans. Cecil Weihe looked like closing in towards the end, but then started to drop back again. Guttorm Sørensen battled his way to bronze. In the photo, Henry has Jan Elmar Sørensen in tow.

Jens R. Weihe had no trouble holding off the young super-veterans and became Faroese champion. Jósvein H. Olsen was 2nd and Jóannes Ortind 3rd

FÍF legend Niels Jákup Jakobsen inspects Roysnið’s work, but there was nothing to fault. Búi, Marnar and the rest of the Roysnið crew did the job perfectly.
