Very well-organised Menfolk Run

Machine-translated from Faroese and not yet reviewed. Read the original.

Last year Hvirlan launched a new running event, and this year the intriguing Menfolk Run was back on the programme. Unfortunately, the turnout was not as big as last year. Otherwise this was a very well-organised event, where the club had really gone all out so that everyone could have a good experience. And the roughly 40 runners certainly had a good day in their running shoes.

A bit of tarmac, wooden bridges, riverbanks, sand, deep rivers, gravel paths and pasture were the stage on which the day’s running drama was to be played out. Although someone was too late for the performance, everything went well all the same, and there was a tremendous chatter at the finish from contented menfolk, drinking water, Cult or beer while wolfing down bread with rullupylsa after the battle was over.

In places they had to wade up to their navels

The mix of runners was a little different from usual. Some of the regular runners took part, but MOST were good workmen from MEST, who had arranged to meet nature around Sandagerð and Sandá on this fine-weather day.

It was the regular runners who reached the finish first, but there were certainly also faces unfamiliar in running circles who made it onto the podium. One of them was Kári Weihe, who won the super-veterans category. In 5th place overall it was also fun to see Snorri Patursson, who used to be seen at running races 10–12 years ago.

But it was Sam Vang from Bragdið who was a comfortable winner, while Hallur Holm and Jóhan M. Jacobsen finished 2nd and 3rd. The team competition was won by Bragdið, while Bláa Eygað, manned by Bragdið runners, only just beat MEST’s best team, which therefore finished 3rd.

Bragdið, with Rúni Seloy, Hallur Holm and Regin Joensen, won the team competition

All that remains is to hope that Hvirlan has the heart to organise this event again next year. My hope is that more people will take up this offer – it is worth every penny and more besides. Thank you for a good day.
