TF VK3 in Argir on Saturday

Machine-translated from Faroese and not yet reviewed. Read the original.

The exciting TF Winter Series continues, and on Saturday Bragdið is organising the third round. It takes place out in Argir on a new and exciting route. This summer, for the first time, there was racing in Argir, when part of the Tórshavn Maraton ran along Argjavegur and Argjaboðagøta. Now Bragdið has taken another step and is organising the first ever running race in Argir.

The race will be based at Skúlin á Argjahamri, where bib collection, registration, changing rooms, showers, the medal ceremony and a good cup of coffee with waffles will all be available. The forecast promises no particularly nice weather on Saturday, but winter runners are by now used to battling the weather gods in harsh conditions.

The smart new Skúlin á Argjahamri will host the third round of the TF Winter Series

A southerly is not the worst wind direction in Argir. We can expect a fair bit of headwind and some heavy drops of rain on the way out to the quarry at Glyvursnes, where we turn. It is only about 2.5 km, and downhill at that. Then we turn and get all the wind at our backs on the way back towards Argir.

And we can look forward to some exciting races. Sources deep within the Faroese running scene reckon that around 6–8 runners have a chance of winning the men’s open category. At the Runt Agnið race we were lucky enough that Valborg Heinesen had come home to run. On Saturday we can expect to see the other marathon star, Marna Egholm, who finished 20th at the Berlin Marathon. So it looks as though our leading home-based women will face a tough contest.

There is no point sitting back, though, because every man and every woman has their team to defend. The Bragdið men got off to a very strong start in Toftir and put two teams at the top. But the young Treysti men, together with Gutti, now look competitive and intend to mount a challenge, while the Roysnið runners are ready should anyone stumble. The Hvirlan women got full value for their strong turnout in the stormy weather at the Kerja Run and took the lead in the team competition. Bragdið can be expected to hit back out in Argir, so everything is set for an exciting contest.

The adults’ course is 8.9 km and the children’s course is 3.5 km. All money raised goes in full to the “Í menniskjum góður tokki” initiative. In connection with this there will also be a fun-run route, which is the same as the children’s route, 3.5 km.

Competition in the usual categories – bib numbers can be collected from 10:00 – start at 11:00 – adults DKK 50 – children DKK 20 – you are also welcome to give more – changing rooms with showers – coffee/tea – waffles – good company – medals.

Registration is best done via the website. There you will also find more information about the route and other details. The link is here: http://athletics.admind.fo/index.php?event=101
