All five of our athletes in Malmö competed today. Our first event was Tummas Napoleon Arge in the men’s 60 metres. He set a good personal best of 7.52 seconds. His previous best time was 7.72 seconds.
Next came the 60 m in the G 19 category. We had two girls in this race. Hildur Poulsen ran first and broke the Faroese record for the distance by 8/100 of a second. The old record was held by Tinna Berg Jørgensen (8.59). Hildur’s time, and the new Faroese record, was 8.51 seconds. Edna Maria Debes was also close to the record. She ran 8.76 seconds.
Hildur Poulsen and Edna Maria Debes cross the finish line in the 200 metres. Earlier in the day Hildur set a new Faroese record in the 60 metres.
Rúni Seloy and Teitur Bjarnastein are focusing mainly on the 800 metres on Sunday, but ran the 400 m today. Teitur’s race went badly, and he was far off his best result. Rúni set the Faroese record for the distance last year and had the chance to improve it. He very nearly did, as his time of 52.16 seconds left him 8/100 of a second off the record. Rúni hopes the record will fall next weekend when he competes in Reykjavík. Teitur will then also get a chance to make up for today’s race.
Edna Maria and Hildur both had one more race today, the 200 metres. They ran in the same heat, where they finished no. 1 and no. 2. Hildur ran 29.02 and Edna Maria 29.65 seconds. They were not entirely happy with the race, and both have run faster times before.
The competition continues tomorrow. The schedule can be found in another article on the website.
