Sam is the King of Sornfelli

Machine-translated from Faroese and not yet reviewed. Read the original.

Yesterday the fourteenth edition of Top Run took place. The race goes from Kollfjarðadalur up to Sornfelli and is, so to speak, uphill all the way. It is nice to see that runners who are often unknown try their hand at this 9.8 km course. These are runners we don’t usually see in the more traditional races.

Young Hans Erland charging away in his third Top Run race.

But then there are also the runners we know. Hans Birgir has taken part in all 14 Top Runs, and Regin Jóannesarson and Sam Vang have missed only one. But Sam Vang hasn’t just run it often. He has certainly won it often, too. Remarkably often. Yesterday Sam took his 10th Top Run victory, and he has therefore earned the title King of Sornfelli.

The King of Sornfelli won his 10th Top Run race yesterday!!!

Sam started cautiously yesterday. Even so, only Martin Gravesen managed to stay with Sam. After three kilometres Sam said goodbye and thank you, and pulled well clear. He finished a good minute ahead of Martin Gravesen in second place. Pauli Jóhannesen stood firm on the slopes and held off the pressure from the young chasers Hans Erland Thomsen and Dánjal Dahl Ljósheim. The latter two finished no. 1 and 2 in the younger age group (under 40).

The women’s race was won by Inga Thorkildshøj, a good minute ahead of Hallbjørg Danielsen, who did, however, win the 40+ group. Conny Mikkelsen was third overall.

The medal winners in the under-40 group. From left: Herdis Ludvig (no. 2), Inga Thorkildshøj (winner) and Marita Hansen, the birthday girl, (no. 3)
