Three go under the old course record

Machine-translated from Faroese and not yet reviewed. Read the original.

For many, many years there has been some doubt about who holds the fastest time for Runt Agnið. On paper, the undersigned was fastest with 36:19 in 2001. But Niels Jákup Jakobsen says he holds the record from one of the very first running races. However, nobody has seen that result in print. Whether the race is so old that the paper has disintegrated is, however, more doubtful.

But this dispute is now, thankfully, passing into history. In the first round of the TF Winter Series 2016-17, no fewer than three men went under the old record. Marnar Djurhuus and Jan Elmar Sørensen both ran just under 35 minutes, and Andrias Hansen ran 36:16.

Truly strong times. Unlike Jan Elmar and Marnar, Andrias has not reached the Island Games qualification standard, but on the form he showed today, things look good for him.

Runt Agnið 2016 fremstu menn
A fiercely strong and hard-fought race between Marnar Djurhuus in first and Jan Elmar Sørensen in second place. Andrias Hansen also ran a fantastic time.

The strongest home-based women of recent years were both complaining of injuries before today’s race, and were somewhat unsure whether they would take part at all. But when it came to it, everything was as usual. Rebekka Fuglø first and Rigmor N. Arge second. Beinta Hoydal Joensen has made good progress over the last six months, but today she could do nothing about the front two, though she still took a satisfying third place.

Runt Agnið 2016 fremstu kvinnur
Business as usual. Rebekka Fuglø won and Rigmor N. Arge was second. Beinta Hoydal Joensen finished third.

It was really fun to see so many runners getting started in this year’s TF Winter Series. Yet again a participation record, with 110 bib numbers handed out! We would of course have liked more of the younger ones to take part, but at the same time we can be glad that those in the oldest age groups are keen to keep at it. Today there were 20 super veterans taking part – 13 men and 7 women!!

Runt Agnið 2016 Superveternar
Runt Agnið is always the race where people move up an age group. Here are two new super veterans. Not even they managed to beat the miracle from Sørvágur, Jens Weihe, who once again won the super veteran category. Páll Vesturbú on the left and John Egholm on the right did, however, finish second and third. (John 2nd and Páll 3rd)

If anyone thinks winter runners hibernate while the series is hibernating, they will have to think again. Several runners showed really good form, and many also ran a good deal faster than last year.

The organisers from Roysnið deserve great thanks for a well-run race and great hospitality.
