As expected, the favourites won when the Faroese Half Marathon Championships were held in Klaksvík yesterday. Andrias Hansen ran very well and stayed with Jan Elmar for half the course, but he could not hold on when Jan Elmar really put his foot down. Jan Elmar finished a minute ahead and won the Faroese title in 1:14:48. Even after Jan Elmar pulled away, Andrias kept fighting and crossed the line in a strong time of 1:15:48.

Jan Elmar and Andrias broke away almost straight away. A clown chased them for a while and tried to coax a coin out of them.

The three veterans, Sam Vang, Martin Gravesen and Henry Olsen, battled for the bronze medal, which Sam eventually won.

As expected, Marna Egholm won the women’s race comfortably. The second-best woman on the day was Unn Joensen, who lives in Norway and does not represent a Faroese club. She was therefore not part of the Faroese Championships. Instead, Ella Áarstein took the championship silver, while Hallbjørg Danielsen from Roysnið took the bronze.

The event was a great success. More than 200 participants in total ran in Klaksvík that day. In addition to the half marathon, there was also a shorter course of just over 5 kilometres and a children’s race.
