The Winter Series is almost here!

Machine-translated from Faroese and not yet reviewed. Read the original.

On Saturday 4 November the Winter Series gets under way again. As in previous years, Roysnið will host both the first and the last race. As usual, it opens with the well-known Runt Agnið race, which has always been well attended and has offered unusually good weather in each of the last few years.

The rules for the Winter Series will be the same as in recent years, with one exception. This winter we will trial an additional age group, 65+ or ultra-veterans. As mentioned, this is only a trial year for the group, but with it we at FÍF want to show that when we say everyone is warmly welcome to take part, it means that everyone is warmly welcome to take part! We hope all of you born in 1952 or earlier will welcome this and turn out like never before. Do tell others about this golden opportunity to compete on equal terms.

The races will largely be the same as before, though there will be some changes. Running out to Glyvursnes is no longer possible while the harbour expansion is under way, so the course for round 3 of the Winter Series (VK3) will certainly not be the same. There is only one week between some of the races, partly because of races abroad that several runners are going to. In addition, December is now, for good reasons, free of races. The programme is as follows:

  1. 4 November at 11:00 – Runt Agnið, Roysnið – 10.3 km (children 5 km)
  2. 18 November at 13:00 – Hvirlan, Kerjarenningin from Hotel Føroyar – 10.5 km (children 1.5 km)
  3. 25 November at 11:00 – Bragdið
  4. 13 January at 11:00 – Frælsi, Sørvágur, Bøur, Sørvágur – 8 km (children 1.5 km)
  5. 3 February at 11:00 – Bragdið, Faroese Cross-Country Championships – 8 km (children 2.5 km)
  6. 10 February at 11:00 – Treysti, Norðdepil
  7. 3 March at 11:00 – Hvistan, Tvøroyri
  8. 17 March at 15:00 – Roysnið, Faroese 10 km Championships in Runavík (children 5 km)

The details missing above can be found under “upcoming events” on the right-hand side of the website. We hope as many people as possible will come and take part regularly throughout the winter. It is usually rewarded on the final race day. The more of us there are, the more fun and enjoyable it will be.

Runt Agnið 2014
The starting gun for Runt Agnið is also always the starting gun for the whole Winter Series, so there is always a special excitement in the air as the field heads straight down Heygsvegur in Toftir
