On Whit Sunday the annual Copenhagen Marathon will be run. This year’s field is a record, with more than 12,000 runners. Several Faroese are among them: both Faroese who live in Denmark and a number who have travelled from the Faroe Islands to run.
We have tried to find the Faroese names on the start list and have come up with these (in no particular order):
Ólavur Kjølbro, Høgni Laksafoss, Arni Laksafoss, Árni Jacobsen, Eirikur Hansen, Fríðrikkur Bláhamar, Henry Olsen, Niels Hansson, Sam Vang, Súni Jacobsen, Johan Havn, Ellef Ellefsen, Heri Ólason Dam, Herluf Jacobsen, Jógvan Páll Joensen, John Weihe, Jón Dahl, Marner Jacobsen, Birgir Sigurðsson, Eyðbjørn Karbec Mouritsen, Róar Akralíð, Kári Holm Johannesen, Óli Jákup Jacobsen, Tummas Joensen, Jóhan V. Gunnarsson, Brian Smedemark, Finngerð Sólbjørg Clark, Eyðfinn Bjarnastein, Martin Ennistein Heinesen, Annelisa Justesen and Lydia Lástein.
No doubt a few names have slipped through the net, but you are welcome to comment on the article and add your name if you have been left out.
Not all of these names are well known in Faroese running circles, so it is hard to say which of the Faroese will do best. But there are some familiar faces, and of those who have performed very well in recent years, it will be exciting to see how high up the results list Sam Vang and Eirikur Hansen can get. Henry Olsen has also been running well this winter, but because of an injury it is not certain at the time of writing that he will take part.
FÍF wishes everyone a good and long (!) run and the best of luck.
