Winter Series finally organised

Machine-translated from Faroese and not yet reviewed. Read the original.

Once again this coming winter, FÍF and the clubs will organise the annual Winter Series. One major change, however, is that there will now be as many as 7 rounds instead of the 5 there have been in recent years. In recognition of the smaller clubs’ efforts to build up a running community, FÍF will organise races together with Hvistan and Frælsi in Trongisvágur and in Vágar. Last year runners had to take part in at least three of the five races to be included in the overall results. Now that two more races have been added, this has changed so that runners must take part in at least four of the seven races.

The traditional Runt Agnið race will once again kick off the Winter Series this year. Runt Agnið is a very popular race on a very popular course. Every year more and more runners have taken part, even though the weather has not always been kind. Last year about 80 runners took part when the Winter Series began, and this year we hope to reach 100 when Runt Agnið is held on 17 November.

Besides the increased number of races, there is also another change. The last round, the Spring Race in Runavík, will also be the Faroese 10 km Road Championships. The usual Faroese 10 km Road Championships race, held on the Tuesday after Eystanstevna, will be dropped.

Full overview of the Winter Series:

  1. 17 November – Runt Agnið (10.3 km)
  2. 8 December – Tórshavn (11 km)
  3. 12 January – Frælsi (route in Vágar not yet decided)
  4. 2 February – Faroese Cross-Country Championships in Hoydalar (8 km)
  5. 23 February – Hvannasund (10 km – route may change)
  6. 16 March – Hvistan (the race will be run by the plantation in Trongisvágur)
  7. 30 March – Spring Race Runavík (Faroese 10 km Championships)

The Winter Series is for EVERYONE. For those who just want to meet other runners, for those who need race practice ahead of the Island Games, for those who fancy an exciting race here and now, and for those who want to take part every time and collect as many points as possible.

Categories, rules, invitation and registration will be ready soon – keep following this site.

See you in Toftir on 17 November.

Rúni Seloy and Regin Joensen did well at Runt Agnið last year – but might they be aiming even higher this year?
