As in previous years, Ítróttafelagið Treysti is organising the annual FØROYA BJÓR RUN at Norðoyastevna. The start is at 12:00 on Saturday 31 May 2003.

This race has now become a fixture of the Saturday programme at Norðoyastevna, and this is the 7th year in a row that it is run in the town centre. Participation has been very good since it began and has grown every year, with around 150 participants.

This year the race is on Saturday 31 May. The route will be the same, i.e. it runs along Skúlavegur, Gerðagøta and Biskupsstøðgøta. The children start at Telefonstøðin, while the adults start at Talvhúsið. The finish for everyone is at Telefonstøðin.

Round 2 of the GP for adults

The adults’ race is also round 2 of the Grand Prix organised by FÍF, the federation for athletics.

The other rounds will be in:
Runavík on the evening of Tuesday 10 June

Fuglafjørður 5 July

Sandavágur 12 July

Tórshavn 27 July

Grand Prix for children again this year

Again this summer there will be a Grand Prix for children, i.e. for girls and boys separately. The children’s Grand Prix will have five rounds. The first round is at Norðoyastevna, the next at Eystanstevna (14 June), the third at Varmakelda (5 July), the fourth at Vestanstevna (12 July), while the fifth and final round is at Ólavsøka (27 July). The competition is divided into four age groups, as follows:

Boys 7/Girls 7 (born 1996 or later)

Boys 10/Girls 10 (born 1993–1995)

Boys 13/Girls 13 (born 1990–1992)

Boys 17/Girls 17 (born 1986–1989)

The points table used for the children will be the same as for the adults, i.e. 1st place gets 40 points, and the following runners then get 34, 30, 26, 23, 20, 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 20th place gets 1 point. The winners in the various groups will be the runners with the most points in total at Ólavsøka, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place receive trophies to keep. To count in the final standings, you must have taken part in at least 4 of the 5 races.

New conditions for participation

This year FÍF has made it a condition that, to count in the Grand Prix for adults and children, you must be a member of one of the three athletics clubs: Treysti from the Northern Isles, Bragdið from Tórshavn or Roysnið from Eysturoy.

This is partly because the Grand Prix is to be regarded as a kind of national running competition. FÍF also hopes in this way to establish better contact with runners around the country, so that races and other events can be better organised in the way athletes want.

If you would like to become a member of one of the clubs, you can fill in the relevant field at the bottom of the registration page.

The Company Relay

Again this year a “company relay” will be organised. Over the past three years it has been so successful that it is being tried again this year.

Again this year, no “professional” runners may take part, i.e. no one who has previously taken part in the 5 km may take part in the relay.

This change should make it more appealing for “amateurs” to take part, which in turn should increase the number of teams.

Otherwise everything is the same. Three participants (men/women) from the same company each run one lap of 675 m. The first runner on the team starts and runs one lap, the second runner stands ready at the finish, gets a tag from the first and then sets off, the third and final runner stands ready, gets a tag from the second and then sets off, and when he crosses the line the whole team has finished. I.e. the 3rd runner decides how the team does. It is best if the 3 participants from the same company run in matching shirts – so it is easier to keep track of the changeovers. Businesses, institutions and the like can enter one or more teams of three runners each.

Medals and trophies

When the last runner has finished and the results are ready, medals will be presented to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for both girls and boys in all age groups, while for the adults a trophy will be given to the winner in the women’s and men’s races and medals to 2nd and 3rd. The first three veterans also receive medals. The winning relay team receives a trophy to keep, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place also receive medals. There will also be something refreshing from Føroya Bjór.

Online registration

New for the Føroya Bjór Run, it is possible to register online here on the website. This is done on the dedicated registration page, which can be found here .

The deadline for online registration is Friday evening 30 May at 18:00. The entry fee, which is DKK 30 for adults, DKK 20 for children and DKK 100 for a relay team, must be transferred to account 6460-413.221.3 or 9865-101.947.8. Those who register online must collect their bib number at Telefonstøðin in good time before the start.

It is also possible to register at Telefonstøðin, no later than ½ hour before the races begin. All participants are asked to come to Telefonstøðin and register in good time before the race starts.

Everyone is welcome to take part, including those who do not intend to compete in the Grand Prix, and the organisers hope the turnout will be at least as good as it has been in recent years.

Finally, the organisers from Treysti would like to wish everyone a good Norðoyastevna.
