The Flag Day Run for the 17th time
As in previous years, Bragdið is once again organising a run on Flag Day this year. The start is at Gamla Apotek at 16:00, straight after the pleasant Flag Day celebration at Vaglið in Tórshavn.
The race is for children and adults. Please note that everyone – fast and less fast, young and older – is welcome. Adults run 7.02 km and children born in 1990 or later run about 1.8 km.
Company competition
As well as being a race for individuals – it is the first race in the annual Grand Prix series for adults – the Flag Day Run is also a competition between companies, institutions and the like, called the company competition.
The company competition works like this: companies and others can enter teams of 3–5 adult participants, who then compete against each other. Several teams can take part from each company, but women and men must be on separate teams.
The 2003 Grand Prix
The Flag Day Run is also the first round of the Grand Prix for adults and veterans. This competition counts as a nationwide competition for both individuals and athletics clubs.
This year Frælsur Ítróttur Føroya has made it a condition for taking part in the overall Grand Prix that participants are members of one of the three athletics clubs.
If you would like to become a member of one of the clubs, you can fill in the relevant field at the bottom of the page.
The other rounds of the Grand Prix for adults and veterans are:
Klaksvík 31 May
Runavík 14 June (not yet confirmed)
Fuglafjørður 5 July
Sandavágur 12 July
Tórshavn 27 July

Boys 13 and under (born 1990 or later) run 1800 m.

Veteran men (born 1957 or earlier) run 7.02 km
After crossing the finish line, all participants receive fruit, Poptop and Restorff soft drinks, sponsored by P/F Poul Hansen, MBM and Restorff respectively.
Winning teams and individuals receive trophies to keep. In addition, medals will be awarded to numbers 1, 2 and 3. The main sponsor of the Flag Day Run is P/F Føroya Shell, which also provides trophies and medals, as well as a cap for every participant. Other sponsors are Føroya Sparikassi and Restorffs Bryggjarí
Recognition
As something new, those who have taken part in this race 10 and 15 times will be honoured.
Bib collection
Bib numbers and other materials must be collected at the ÍSF building on Thursday evening, 24 April, between 19:00 and 21:00.
Usually more than 200 people take part – the record is 240 participants – making it the biggest race of its kind in the Faroe Islands. Bragdið hopes this year will be no exception, but rather the opposite. It would be great if we set a new participation record again this year.
