On Saturday 29 March at 14:00, Roysnið organised this year’s next running race, the Spring Race in Runavík.

There were 23 participants in the race, 21 men and two women. The distance was 10 km.

As in previous years, the start was above Miklagarður. The route went out to Sjómansheimið, where the runners turned down onto the quay. They then ran in along Gulasteinsvegur and up onto the road opposite Føroya Banki, where they turned back out again. This loop was to be run just over 9 times. On the final lap, the runners finished at Sjómansheimið.

The conditions

The weather was very nasty in the morning, with a south-westerly wind, rain and occasional sleet, so several people who had planned to run no doubt stayed at home.

During the race, however, conditions were reasonable. It rained a little now and then, but it was perhaps rather cold.

The race itself

In the men’s race, it was clear that Hallur Holm was in good form. He extended his lead over the others all the way and finished in a time of 33:48 min.

Second was Sigurð Justinussen in 35:12 min, while Cecil Weihe was third in 35:22 min. All three run for Bragdið.

Behind them there was a tough battle for fourth place. Jonhard Larsen of Treysti and Snorri Patursson of Bragdið ran together for a long time. In a long finishing sprint, Jonhard managed to get ahead just before the finish line.

The women’s race was won by Rigmor N. Arge of Bragdið in 41:09 min. Second was Karina Petersen from Gøta in 47:37 min.

There was also a veterans’ category (born in 1957 or earlier). The fastest of them was Steintór Hjaltalin of Bragdið in 41:36 min. Second place was decided in an exciting sprint finish between Ólavur Herup Olsen of Bragdið and Harry Hansen of Roysnið. Ólavur came out on top with a time of 43:10 min. That was just two seconds faster than Harry, who finished third.

The results

As you would expect, most people were in good spirits after the race. As usual on this fast route, many personal bests were set.
