Although the competition season in athletics and running is more or less coming to an end, it is clear that this is a year-round sport. A few events are still to come: Treysti is organising the excellent island run on 26 September, and the MBM Winter Series 2026-27 will be announced shortly. It usually starts in early November.
On Friday 4 September there was a celebration at Tórsbreyt to mark the track’s major renovation and upgrade, and on Saturday 5 September two big events took place more or less at the same time.
Tórsbreyt upgraded
Athletes and recreational runners have been itching all summer, eagerly waiting for Tórsbreyt to be available again. Several major changes have been made at Tórsbreyt this summer, in connection with the Island Games 2027, but also to upgrade the track so it can host bigger competitions.
It is 18 years since the first steps were taken on Tórsbreyt, and for many years it has been an important setting for athletics in the Faroe Islands, which has developed a great deal over recent years. Although the track has been good, there has long been a need for improvements and better facilities. During preparations for the Island Games 2027 it was also established that Tórsbreyt needed improvements to meet the required competition standards. Work to modernise and renovate the track was therefore set in motion.
One visible change is that the track has been widened and renovated, so it now has eight lanes for the 100 metres. Pole vault has also been added. This means the track can now be approved for more international competitions. There are also more jumping pits than before.

MBM Grand Prix 3
There were 140 starts in MBM Grand Prix 3 on the newly renovated Tórsbreyt. This was the third and final Grand Prix meet this year. These meets give children and young people in particular the chance to try athletics, in throws, jumps and running over sprint and middle distances. After the competition, medals and trophies were presented.
